Cinema for the community.
Multiplexes and studios think bigger is better - bigger screen, bigger superheroes. “Why else would people get off their couch and go to the theater?”
But we know what going to the movies is about: Community. Hasn’t it always been? Together, we can reframe the dilemma of the declining cinema. Instead of using the latest advancement in technology to go big, we’ll go more intimate and more accessible.

Hyphen Film Center will be a single-screen, 50-seat cinema experience located inside Logan Street Market, tapping into the market’s great ability to foster community and cross-program food, beverage and the arts in a single space.

Our Values
Mission
We are a Kentucky non-profit organization with the mission to engage, enrich, and educate diverse audiences through innovative and accessible cinematic arts programming.
Vision
We are committed to featuring under-represented cinema that will embolden neighborhood artists typically removed from the epicenter of art distribution channels and, in the process, foster new developments in community-based arts exhibition and appreciation.

Why Now?
Shared Connection
Why construct a film center in the wake of the pandemic and social and racial justice reform? Actually, it’s precisely for those reasons we should. Now, more than ever, we’ve understood how people can affect change in their community. How vital it is for citizens to feel a connection to and take pride in their neighborhood.
Neighborhood Strong
The arts spaces should reflect the city’s growing diversity. We’ll work with the community and the Shelby Park, Germantown, and Smoketown Associations to help address the inequities these neighborhoods have historically faced. We can serve as an exemplary non-profit organization by actively soliciting input and best practices from the community.
100 for $100
We’re looking for 100 people to support us with a $100 contribution. You will jumpstart our fundraising campaign and directly impact the cultural lives of artists and audiences in Louisville.
